Sanbai tanoshii!!

Tue Aug 4, 2009, 7:32 PM
  • Mood: Cheerful
  • Listening to: Jay Chou - Mi Die Xiang
  • Reading: The Shack
  • Watching: Boys Over Flowers (Korean ver.)
I hardly write any journal entries, and you know what? It's cuz they all sound dumb to me later ^^; I'm actually sitting here staring at the screen trying to think what to write. I just feel like I should. I mean, I posted something! I really posted something! So there.

So, I keep hearing that people like Jay Chou, and I hadn't looked into his music until like a week or two ago--and it's really good!! His videos were really good, too, the ones I saw at least. And there's this really funny Kat-tun commercial on YouTube with Kame that's like "Kamenashi-kun wa sanbai tanoshii!" and it makes me laugh every time. I mean, how can you not laugh at three Kame's jumping on pogo sticks? hahahaha see I'm not even watching it and I'm laughing.

I hope everyone is having a nice summer! Tell me what you're up to if you want or if you're bored~ I'm having a fun time at home, but I also can't wait to be back in Irvine too~!

Most inspiring thing in your life right now?

Hi! I just finished a paper and have to work on another one, and I don't really want to so I'm listening to Plastic Tree and writing journal entries instead. What's inspiring to you right now? Whether it's a verse you've found in the Bible recently, or a band or a song, or a picture (post a link!) or anything like that, I'd like to know if you have time! I'm really inspired by Plastic Tree (noooo, really?). Whether it's to do homework, or write or draw or anything, listening to them is really encouraging ^_^ Actually, post if you're a Plastic Tree fan too, because Plastic Tree is awesome and I can't find anyone who listens to them ^^;;

...Anime fast?

Maybe all those people fasting for Lent are getting to my brain lol.

I was thinking of doing a sort of "anime fast." Not from watching anime or reading manga or anything like that (let's not be hasty! haha) but from drawing it. It's not like I've been drawing that much lately anyway, but it occurred to me lately that I got started on anime by practicing on other people's characters, from Pokemon to Dragonball Z to artists on deviantart. I don't really do that anymore, but it seems to me like that detracts from my validity as an artist--like my "style" or whatever isn't really my own, because I borrowed from so many other people. I think that can also pose copyright issues later on (e.g. "I was practicing on ____ for an hour and then I drew this"). I think I've also neglected to really study anatomy and true body shapes, because I've been learning from others' portraits and drawings instead of from real life.

I'm also wondering what got you started on anime, and how you started practicing. Did you copy the works of favorite mangaka (not like pretending it's your own, but just for practice), or of other artists to practice? How-to books?

Anyway, if I don't post for a while, it'll be because of 1) lack of time, and 2) indecision. I'm interested in hearing your opinions!

Korean Music

So...I kind of find myself listening to it a lot lately, I think because Japanese is too distracting now (haha, which is a good thing, but still). I've been listening to DBSK, Kangta, Shinhwa, Shin Hye Sung, and Lee Minwoo. If anyone listens to Korean music or has a favorite Japanese band right now, could you recommend it to me? I want to keep trying new singers and bands!
